Renewals and Terms

How ILSI membership renewal works, what happens if your contract is extended or changes, and the terms that govern your membership.

ILSI membership is normally arranged to match the length of your overseas employment contract. This page explains what happens at renewal, and the general terms that apply to every membership.

Renewing your membership

  • If your contract is extended or renewed by your employer, you can extend your ILSI membership to match at your nearest partner office or corridor liaison point.
  • If you change employer within the same corridor, tell ILSI so your case record and membership can be updated.

General terms

  • Membership is personal to the individual worker and is not transferable to another person.
  • ILSI membership does not alter, replace, or override the terms of your employment contract with your employer.
  • Casework and legal referral support are provided in good faith and to the best of ILSI's ability, but ILSI cannot guarantee a particular legal or financial outcome.
  • Membership may be suspended if a member is found to have provided false information during enrolment, without affecting the member's right to raise a genuine complaint through our complaints process.

For a full explanation of any term, contact your nearest ILSI office or see our membership FAQ.

What happens if you do not renew

If your membership lapses at the end of your contract without renewal, your access to active casework support ends, but ILSI retains your case record for a limited period in case a related issue, such as an unresolved wage claim, needs to be reopened. You can rejoin later through the standard enrolment process if you take up another overseas contract.

Changing your details

Keep your contact information, employer details, and next-of-kin information up to date with your ILSI office throughout your membership. Out-of-date details are one of the most common reasons a caseworker cannot reach a member quickly when a problem is reported by a family member instead.

Disputes about these terms

If you disagree with a decision ILSI has made about your membership, such as a suspension, you can raise it through our complaints process, which is independent of the team that made the original decision.
